Dog owners are not getting as much access to Cornwall’s beaches as they had hoped for following a committee’s decision to reject recommendations made to them.
Plans to relax the current restrictions on 45 beaches, just 23 owned by the council, were rejected by councillors on Cornwall Council’s neighbourhoods overview and scrutiny committee.
The current restrictions are due to expire and Cornwall Council took the opportunity to ask the public for views on the restrictions. It brought the biggest response to any council consultation with more than 13,000 responses.
The council was looking to harmonise the restrictions which differ from beach to beach.
The recommended restrictions were from 10am to 5pm from July 1 to August 31.
However the committee ruled that restrictions be in place from May 15 to September 30 with the hours adjusted to 10am to 6pm.
The committee voted to recommend to Cabinet that the new PSPOs operate from May 15 to September 30 and from 10am to 6pm. There were nine votes in favour and four against.
