Restrictions on when dogs are allowed on beaches in Cornwall could be relaxed under new proposals.

Cornwall Council currently has 48 Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) in place which limit when dogs can be exercised on beaches.

But there are variations across beaches and the council wants to regularise them to make it easier for residents and visitors.

The Council’s consultation last summer received the greatest response to any consultation it has run with more than 13,000 people contributing.

Now the council has announced its preferred option which will go before councillors next week. Under the proposals all beaches, except those with a Blue Flag, would have a restriction for dogs from 10am to 5pm from July 1 to August 31. Some of the current restrictions run from Easter to September. Blue Flag beaches have to have different restrictions so the ban will be from 10am to 5pm from May 15 to September 30.
