Climate change campaigners and local councillors from across South East Cornwall will come together to share ideas on Sunday (September 1).
The day of action planning will take place at Liskeard Public Hall.
Joining forces for the event are Extinction Rebellion, Liskeard Town Council, local parish councils and residents.
With arts activities, book swaps and stalls in the hall from 2pm, there’ll be presentations from Liskeard’s mayor Rachel Brooks, Nick Hart of Re-imagine Kernow and the head teacher of Liskeard School, Alex Lingard, from 3.30pm.
Main guest speaker Dr Larch Maxey, will take to the stage at 4pm with the Extinction Rebellion talk ‘The Time Is Now’ followed by an opportunity for questions regarding the actions planned for October in London and around the world.
After food at 6pm, a People’s Assembly will be the chance for people to put forward their ideas.
The aim of this session will be to hear everyone’s voice, make priorities for action, and decide upon how best to approach central government.
‘The Town Council recognises the urgency of taking action to safeguard our environment and we have set up a group to look at practical things we can do,’ said Councillor Brooks.
‘We need to work together with different groups to learn from each other and make changes.’
A spokesperson for Extinction Rebellion in SE Cornwall said: ‘Whatever your knowledge, experience or situation, it is difficult to ignore the message that nature is telling us: that we must change the way we exist and that time to do this is running out.
‘The solutions are out there, many people and groups in our area are already doing fantastic things, but there is so much more we could achieve if we all come together and act now.’
