A COUNCIL'S plan to write off nearly £100,000 in debt has been disputed by a sports association.
The Liskeard and District Sports Association (LDSA) has said the figures suggested by Caradon District Council are 'only theoretical' and is not part of any outstanding debt.
Steve Barrett, from the LDSA, has said the figures suggested are a result of retrospective costs that were overlooked by Caradon District Council.
He said: 'There was a lease drawn up in 1980 that replaced an original lease from 1972. The rent was £51 per year, £1 of which was for the "building lease", which would run for a term of 99 years without review.'
The building lease covered the running of the bar in the pavilion.
The other £50 was paid as rent for the use of the grounds, and would run for a period of 28 years, expiring in 2000. Caradon gave notice of a rent review in 2000 but no action was taken to determine the value.
It wasn't until 2006 that the council raised the issue once again and instructed David Blanchard Limited to deal with the review on their behalf.
As a result, the LDSA are disputing Caradon's claim that there is any money outstanding and that they are simply trying to write off an oversight from eight years ago.
Mr Barrett continued: 'The association has continued to pay the £51 from the original lease every year so there is no outstanding debt.'
