I went swimming at Lux Park, Liskeard, last Thursday, expecting great things from the money spent on the swimming pool but in some respects I was very disappointed. The pool bottom seems very slippery (and my wife remarks that this is particularly true when the pools are used for Aqua-fit classes - I gather that the ladies have been asked to buy grippy rubber shoes for safety). Even when kicking off from the deep end against the pool end my feet slip. It is a pity that the upper corner could not be rounded off with an edge drain but this obviously would require a much larger budget. However, the male changing room floor is disgusting - drains have been removed and the floor, although having a new topping, now has an almost permanent lake in the middle. The same applies in the male showers and the urinal floor where water lies without draining. The new blue/yellow peg rails are designed to throw anything being hung on them onto the (wet) floor. If the rails were the best option why could they not be fitted with a slight tilt upwards from the vertical? I would happily dispense with the (amusing) mural if money could have been diverted to more sensible use. While the locker doors seem to have been replaced or refitted some of the locks still are inclined to play-up leaving doors unlocked but with keys jammed. Finally, we men seem to have lost our hairdryer while the hand-dryer no longer has a tilt facility for the warm air.
