I really enjoyed seeing the photograph of the Lanreath maypole in the Cornish Times.
It is particularly appropriate to us at Pelynt Players, because it is one of the main aspects of our pantomime.
We took the old tales of the maypole wars between local parishes as the starting point for this year's script and went from there!
I feel that local history needs to be preserved and passed on to our young people in a way that they can all enjoy.
I do not know how our audiences will react but I do know how the 12 children in our cast reacted – they just didn't believe their grandparents could behave like that!
We even have a maypole on stage (we are not saying where it came from!) so the children can perform their maypole dance. Let's keep the old traditions going, whether it is the local panto or the maypole. It is what makes us different from them upcountry. Our performances of The Pirates of Plenty can be seen in Pelynt Village Hall on February 26-28 and March 5-7.
