Maurice and Betty Thorne of St Cleer who have just celebrated their diamond wedding moved to the Liskeard area from Wiltshire two years ago to be closer to their son Richard and his family. Their daughter Mrs Wendy Wyatt travelled with her family from Hertfordshire to be at the anniversary celebrations. The couple have five grandchildren and a two year old great-grandchild. When they wed at Beckenham Methodist Church in 1944 Maurice was working for the Admiralty in London and was a member of the Volunteer Fire Service and Home Guard. He continued with his Admiralty career after the war, working in South Africa and several places in England. Mrs Thorne is a volunteer helper at the Mount Edgcumbe Charity Shop in Liskeard while both are members of the Retired Civil Servants Association Both aged 82 they take a keen interest in local affairs, and enjoy their home and garden.
