Cornwall U19 girls played their first game together and put in a fine performance to beat Devon 2-1 in a friendly at Lux Park, Liskeard. Cornwall made a lively start and took the game to Devon with some good passing and solid defending. Gen Williams (Falmouth) played well in the midfield breaking down the Devon play and supplying the forwards, and on one occasion this led to Hannah Grice (Newquay) striking the ball from the top of the circle to give Cornwall a well-deserved lead. The Cornwall defence, led by Leanne Manley (Newquay) and captain Hattie Dukes (Liskeard), played superbly, preventing Devon from creating chances. Their only lapse in concentration throughout resulted in Devon converting a penalty corner to make the score 1-1 at half time. Cornwall came out attacking in the second half and once again Hannah Grice struck a shot with a little help from a deflection resulted in Cornwall's second goal. From then on Devon piled on the pressure but hard work by the whole Cornwall team made sure the game ended in a 2-1 win. It was a great result for the girls, with a big tournament only a few weeks away.
