After all the controversy attending its creation it was, perhaps, appropriate that the official launching of the new town centre should be accompanied by strong winds and rain.
However, thanks to excellent organisation and the generous co-operation of a large number of people it became a day enjoyed by all and, on behalf of the town, and the council, I would like to thank all those who contributed to make it so.
Special mention should, of course, be made of Jane Pascoe and Trevor Jones, without whose help it could have become a very damp squib, especially as an alternative venue was struck by an electricity power cut.
Many local people played their roles, often anonymously, but we should also thank those who came from neighbouring towns, as far away as Saltash, Launceston and even Withiel.
This communal co-operation, living proof of 'Onen hag Oll, (One and All,) will help Cornwall make the most of its Objective One monies and generally to pull itself up.
The town will have a bright future if we can keep this up.
