After winning 9-0 at home to the Ship B last Friday the Noughts took over as league leaders with a 5-4 victory over the Rowett B the very next night. This re-arranged match started well for the Noughts as Cess Pethick took advantage of Darren Thomas' recent poor form with a 2-0 win.
The ever reliable Roger Pill made it one apiece with a distance win over Andy Bryant but then the Noughts went 3-1 up with good wins from Grant Guild and Jerry Jago over Dennis Shaw and Dave Nutty. Mike Pengelly pegged it back a bit with a 2-0 win over Jon Perry. Andy Grant then gave the Noughts a 4-2 lead with his win over Malcolm Taper. The first doubles sealed it for the Noughts; the last two doubles went the Rowetts way to make the score 5-4 to the Noughts.
The Rowett B also had a good 9-0 win the night before when they entertained the Caradon. However the highlights of the evening were Dave Nutty's 151 finish and Roger Pill's 127 bull finish.
Pelynt B did all they could winning 9-0 against the Blue Peter keeping them just one point behind the leaders.
The Millhouse gave the Rowett A a fright as the score was three apiece after the singles. Mick Knight, John Yaxley and Paul Hoskin won for the Mill with the reliable trio of Mark Lewis, Lee Bryant and Jason Mark winning for the Rowett. The Rowett stepped it up for the doubles and ran out 6-3 winners. Another game that finished 6-3 was the Ship A v 3 Pilchards. The fish had the better of the singles winning four thanks to Tina and Deano Dicks, Tony Giddy and Ennis Puckey whilst Alan Winterson and Ivor Williams replied. The first doubles went the Ships way but the Pilchards had the last two to seal victory.
The only close game was the Legion v Pelynt A. The singles were shared with wins from Legions Dick Hinton, Mick Curle (who cut off the power) and Bob Whitewood whilst Tony Hogben, Dean Haynes and Joan Geach won for Pelynt then the visitors just won it on the doubles to continue their recent good form.
Jerry Jago remains the leagues top player still unbeaten. He has not been beaten for 27 games. He also has most tons with 64. Leading the chasing pack is Andy Grant who has won 14 and has 61 tons. Six players have B wins and Dean Haynes and Max Facey are close on tons. There have been 18 ton plus finished with Dave Nutty's 151 finish being the best. Only 12 180s have been hit Joan Geach and Betty Turner lead ladies most wins and Joan has most tons (based on league games only).
The Knockout Cup final takes place on Saturday 18th March at the Rowett as with all cup games this must be played on the set date.
