COURAGEOUS fundraisers from Saltash walked across fire to raise money for the Cornwall Blind Association.
Almost 20 people took part in the firewalk held at Cornwall College Saltash, including teams from the college and the local Waitrose store, and other volunteers.
Training
Participants had to raise at least £120 in order to take part – and undergo a two-hour training session to ready themselves for the 15ft walk along the firelane, which burns at 800°F.
Those who took part were supported by a crowd of friends, family and colleagues.
As the audience waited expectantly during the 'burndown' of the firelane, students on the college's professional cookery course ran a barbecue, with proceeds also going to the Cornwall Blind Association.
Karl Eardley, who works at Waitrose in Saltash, was one of those taking part.
'I found it a really good experience and thoroughly enjoyed it,' he said. 'It didn't hurt at all and felt a bit like walking on hot carpet!' he added.
Principal of Cornwall College Dave Linnell said: 'It's great that we can host exciting charity events like a firewalk for staff, students and the wider community at our campus in Saltash. I'm sure everyone involved enjoyed the experience and as a result of their courage a lot of money will be raised for the Cornwall Blind Association.'
