AN abandoned building site has been described as 'dangerous' after neighbours spotted children on it.
The site, on Liskerret Road, Liskeard, has been abandoned for at least six months, according to residents.
A source, who wishes to remain anonymous, said that the fencing surrounding the site had been damaged and that there were gaps in the fence that would be easy for someone to get through.
The source said: 'I recently walked over the site and found that there were dangerous hazards including unprotected scaffold and ladders which were not guarded, and dangerous drops onto concrete which could seriously injure an adult if they fell down them, let alone a child.'
The site now has new fencing around it but Mr and Mrs Stanton, who live next door to the site, say they have seen people on it who shouldn't be there.
Mr Stanton, said: 'We have seen children on the site. It's no place to be playing around because they can be dangerous places.
'There's also been some men on the site who were taking tiles from the roof. We can only guess that they were workers who hadn't been paid.'
The site was being developed by Cornish Homes UK Ltd who went into voluntary liquidation towards the end of last year.
The company was owned by businessman Kevin Heaney, who attended a liquidation meeting in October last year in Exeter to talk to the company's creditors.
Councillor Tony Powell, from Caradon District Council, said: 'We have been concerned about the site for some time.
'Until now I was not aware of any problems in terms of safety.'
A meeting was held at the council on Wednesday afternoon to discuss what options the council had for the site.
Ian Kay, a planning control officer at Caradon who attended the meeting, said: 'We feel it is the responsibility of the liquidators to ensure the safety of the site.
'Having said this we will do what we can and have now placed signs on the fence asking people to stay away.
Caradon has now contacted the liquidators, who said the complex nature of the liquidation has left a number of question marks over the site.
Mr Kay added: 'They have told us that they were not aware of that site.
'I have been assured by the person who is dealing with Cornish Homes UK Ltd that he will speak to the former director of the company about the site and will speak to me in due course.'
