Cricket- County Division Two

Truro II v Boconnoc

Upon winning the toss, the home side elected to bat first and Grant (45) partnered by Bolland (34) produced a fine opening stand of 76 before Grant was brilliantly caught at long off by Rowse.

Morris (31) then joined Bolland but the innings rather lost momentum at this stage before Chaplin, Phillips and Stephens gave them a much-needed boost to take Truro's total to 204-7 at the close, with the most successful Boconnoc bowlers being Brotherwood with 3-48 and Rowse 2-39.

In reply, Sturgess and Cook gave the visitors a sound start of 35 in 10 overs before Sturgess was caught in the gallery and, with Cook sharing a second wicket partnership of 38 with Blake (11) followed by another stand of 39 for the third with Gary Isbell (10), Boconnoc looked to be in with a great chance. However, with Niblett going cheaply and then Cook himself holing out at long on for a wonderful 86 which included nine fours and a six, made from 121 balls, the match was in the balance.

With Rowse making a magnificent 41 from only 27 balls, the match swung back towards Boconnoc, and needing just four to win from the last over, they reached their target with the last ball of the match, with Piper and Brotherwood at the crease, winning by two wickets to ease their relegation worries.
