Newquay v Luckett

On a wicket at Newquay that looked to be full of runs, Newquay took first knock and made a good start, putting on 42 runs in 13 overs.

Roger Berry, Luckett's veteran slow bowler, was then brought on to bowl and he and Chris Bowden were to change the game completely. In Roger's first four overs, he took four wickets along with Bowden's two, with wicket keeper Alan Skeet catching four of them. Newquay suddenly found themselves at 56-6. Tony Roberts and J Harrison then set about slowly repairing the damage and put on 83 runs, Roberts finishing on 43 not out and Harrison on 39, who fell to Luckett's Matt Perry, who bowled very well alongside fellow quick bowlers John Schutkacker. Chris Bowden managed 2-26 from 16 overs, while John and Matt gave away just 31 runs in the last eight overs and picked up the important wicket of Harrison.

In reply, Luckett's opening pair of Chris Bowden and John Schutkacker shared in a stand of 40 when Bowden went for 17. Schutkacker went soon after for 15 with the score at 45-2. It brought together the pairing of Adrian Berry and Paul Sidey, who put together 42 runs for the third wicket, when Sidey was out for 17 at 87-3. However, this was to be the last wicket to fall as Berry and Paul Rowe put on an unbroken stand of 54 for the fourth wicket. Rowe's 18 not out and Berry's 55 not out, including nine fours in the innings, secured 19 useful points to keep Luckett away from the drop against a team below them in the league.
