Fowey made the trip to the village ground on Saturday to conclude the eclipse week double and found themselves batting on a wicket which was green due to overnight rain.
Kirwin and Hamilton got proceedings off to a good start scoring at four an over against the bowling of Stuart Taylor and Phil Adsett. However, Taylor is proving that he has the ability to produce that wicket taking delivery from nowhere and this was the case when he got one to explode from just short of a length to touch the glove of Kirwin who was duly caught behind.
Adsett bowling with a clever mixture of swing and seam then took the next three wickets cheaply to leave the visitors at 52-4 at the 20 over mark and having to consolidate.
Malcolm Roberts and Mike Steer did just this with a partnership of 50 until the re-introduction of Taylor saw Roberts caught and bowled. Simon Hunt who had bowled the reliable Hamilton for 16 then had Steer snapped up by Daniel Lee for a fighting 37 which was the end of any real resistance as the Fowey innings petered out in the 45th over for an all out score of 140.
All of the Menheniot bowlers performed well with the wickets on this occasion being shared between Taylor, Adsett and Hunt.
Fowey took the field knowing that they had to bowl the home side out and the early wicket of the previous week's hero Alex Tunnadine caught and bowled Mike Meares for eight must have given them hope.
However this proved to be a false dawn as Adsett and Hunt proceeded to put on 60 for the second wicket in 13 overs to set a platform for victory. Adsett went for a stylish 30 which bought John Carpenter to the crease to join Simon Hunt. Little changed as these two scored the necessary runs from just 28 overs to leave Menheniot comfortable winners by eight wickets.
Hunt went on to finish on a smoothly made 56 n.o. enjoying good support from Carpenter with a solid 28. The Fowey bowlers stuck to their tasks well and Tony Whyatt in particular can look back on another good spell or bowling that on another day could have been more productive.
So, another comfortable victory for Menheniot as they look forward and a possible push for promotion in the near future. Fowey who have enjoyed that success in the last two seasons must now look forwards their next fixture with fellow strugglers South Petherwin as crucial in their effort to maintain their Division Three status. Menheniot wish both sides well as it was they who were in this exact same position only 12 months ago.
