In reply, Luckett's batsmen made a good start, putting on 36 in five overs for once wicket when the rain came to make the pitch unplayable. It left both teams disappointed. Luckett's batsmen were hoping to knock off the run, while Newquay's bowlers obviously capable of bowling the opposition out. Reg Rogers and Nigel Vivian, the two umpires, did the right thing in calling the game off as they rightly felt that on a slippery wicket and outfield, somebody might get hurt.
