Werrington III v Menheniot II

Menheniot visited the Werrington estates on Saturday and, upon winning the toss, elected to allow the home side to bat first on a slow and low with wicket with a damp outfield.

After 10 overs had passed, Werrington had scored 25 for the loss of one wicket with the opening batsman, Skinner, being caught at square leg by a very sharp James Hanley off Stuart Taylor. Both Skinner and his opening bowling partner, Mike Harrison, continued to persevere but at the half-way stage, Werrington's score stood at 86-2. Wills went on to make a solid 83 before he was caught on the long boundary by the dependable Keith Goldsmith. Werrington eventually closed their innings on 219-7 with Taylor on 3-48 and Harrison on 3-52 being the chief wicket takers. Unfortunately, they scored 37 extras, with 24 of of these being no balls and wides!

The worst was yet to come as Menheniot capitulated to the fast bowling of A Worden, who clean-bowled six of his seven victims to finish with 7-19 off 14 overs with the visitors all out for 66. Only Mike Strand on 18 not out reached double figures, apart from extras, which amounted to 24.

Scores- Werrington 219-7 (M Wills 83; N Banks 25 n.o.; S Taylor 3-48; M Harrison 3-52). Menheniot 66 (A Worden 7-19; M Strand 18 n.o.) by 153.

Werrington (20 pts) beat Men-heniot (four pts).
