St. Neot v Gorran

Hoping to start the month of August better then they ended the month of July the Taverners entertained Gorran. On winning the toss the Gorran skipper elected to bat.

In the previous encounter the Taverners had taken 10 catches in the Gorran innings but alas this game was not be the same, as the bowling duo of Bunt and Prior were frustrated by four chances being put down in the first 10 overs. The main recipient of this good fortune being Shepherd who was dropped first ball.

The two openers put on 40 before a change of direction from Bunt brought down Evan's middle stump. Shepherd meanwhile revelled in his good fortune and carried on scoring. Hardy was next to go as a change in bowling brought Clapham on and at last a catch was taken by Tamblyn.

Churms and Shepherd took the innings along to 97 before the tiring Pearce claimed two wickets in one over, including half centurion Shepherd (costly drops?) thanks to a athletic catch by GK behind the stumps. At 97 for 4 the rest of the order held little menace as Prior and Clapham bowled with their own menace and the quick hands of GK claimed two stumpings. The innings soon finished on 130 as catches were once again held.

Once again AK and Marks opened the batting but both fell early on to the tight and lively bowling of Atkins. This only lead to the reunion of Clapham and Nicholls who last week formed a match winning partnership against Menheniot. They steadied things up and kept the board ticking over before Clapham was caught and bowled by Shepherd. Pearce made a brief trip to the middle before allowing Tamblyn to take his place.

Along with Nicholls they saw a variety of bowling before taking the Taverners closer to the total. With Tamblyn eager for a not out, something of a rarity in his book, and the scores level after a stand of 64, Hardy found a way through and removed his off stump.

This allowed Bunt in, to watch Nicholls pad the winning run and the Taverners were back on track with 20 points. The main point of interest now, was how Luckett had fared at St. Blazey? Eventually the news of a Luckett defeat filtered through and it should be an interesting end to the season.
