Menheniot II v Werrington III

On a sweltering hot day, Menheniot won the toss to take first knock. The Werrington opening bowler Worden, who had almost single handedly destroyed Menheniot less than a month ago, started off with an 11 ball over!

Unfortunately the home team's opening batsmen who had made a 160 run partnership the previous week failed to capitalise with Wiltshire going early and McLoughlin following at 44-2.

Handley took charge by scoring six fours in a spirited knock of 28 but while all of Menheniot's batsmen looked like making runs, only James Sedgley with 18, John Randle 15 and latterly Mike Strand with 28 made double figures leaving the home team bowled out for 148. Smith for the Werrington bowlers returned figures of 4-22.

Werrington started off very slowly against the experienced opening attack of Randle and Fagg but then accelerated like an express train to score 57-1 off 10 overs. At 20 overs they had almost doubled this to 112-2 and it took another five and a half overs to pass Menheniot's total for the loss of only two wickets. Menheniot can have no complaints as on the day the better team won.

Scores - Menheniot 148 (J Handley 28, J Sedgley 18, M Strand 28, H Smith 4-22). Werrington 150-2 (M Baker 55, M Wills 54 n.o., D Baker 26 n.o., M Harrison 1-27).

Werrington (19) bt Menheniot (4) by eight wkts.
