Liskeard fielded a very inexperienced side including seven players of 15 or under and, despite fighting hard for two thirds of this contest, Tideford eventually eased to an 82-run victory.

Having been asked to bat on an unfortunately soft surface Tideford's openers Peter Luft and G Burn took the score to 35 before Luft was excellently caught by Johnathan Sluman at mid-wicket for 17 off the impressive bowling of Paul Hooper.

Accurate bowling by Jeff Panther then accounted for Keith Olver and Dave Holland and the Liskeard old-boy Andrew Ellacott was caught by a juggling Robin Cowling for a duck as they were reduced to 65 for five. S Horner and I Trundley batted sensibly to add 28 runs before Liskeard skipper Tim Hyslop introduced himself to the fray to wrap up the innings claiming five for 27 in 9.3 overs. Horner finished on a worthy unbeaten 31 with Panther taking 3-30 and Ian Taylor 1-43 as Tideford were dismissed for 121 in the 43rd over. Generally, Liskeard's fielding was very impressive with Taylor taking two well-judged catches backed up by fine displays by Sluman, Mark Gliddon and Richard Andrews.

In reply, Liskeard soon lost Will Andrew to a second ball duck to that wily campaign Mark Swain bat Taylor and Hyslop received the innings to reach 34-1. Taylor then skied Swan to the safe hands of Ellacott at long-oft and the match result was beyond doubt when Olver snared both Cowling and Panther for ducks. Liskeard's inning disintegrated to 39 all out and their youngsters were no match for Tideford's excellent attack. Swain (3-11) and Olver (2-19) did some early damage before captain 'Dutch' Holland (3-0) and Ellacott (2-3) mopped up the tail in quick time.

This was a fine victory by a strong Tideford outfit who will be difficult to beat in division seven this season. Their bowling had both accuracy and variety and it will be difficult for opposing batting sides to post sizeable totals.
