Launceston III v Callington IV

Generous to a fault, Callington showered early freebies upon their neighbouring hosts. Gladly accepting their gifts, Messrs. Hoskin and Budge were encouraged to begin shredding the Ivies' bowling.

Ian Pemberton, first with Deb Penprase, then Will Craven, retrieved some semblance of order for the visitors but another serious outbreak of dropsey among the fielders gave Launceston bats immunity from being out caught.

This rather limited the bowlers' success rate and led to a tidy total, built by all who batted and boosted by the short boundaries.

Fragile early Callington batting cried out for someone to stop the rot in this department. Steve Firth obliged and with Paul Sykes, then Pemberton, pushed his side to the brink of victory before perishing in the cause. Kev Gall and Penprase contrived a spirited last wicket dash but were just thwarted.

Launceston had just triumphed against a Callington side still bent on handicapping itself at every promising turn.
