Troon v Callington

Callington came back to earth with a bang, losing a low-scoring contest at Troon by six wickets. They got off to a solid start, with Snowdon making 16 before being trapped leg before by Simon Moyle. However, after 18 overs Troon turned to the all-spin attack of Ashrad Khan and Gary Spencer, and Callington found runs hard to come by.

Jamie Hatch made 35 before falling to Khan, and the Pakistani also won the battle of the pro's by bowling John Sylvester. Andy Hocking chipped in with 18 and Lee Pascoe remained unbeaten on 20. Callington's tail wagged as well as a Manx Cat's, and the last four batsmen all registered ducks and faced six balls between them. The total of 138 was disappointing but Khan and Spencer bowled well to share eight wickets.

After surviving a dropped catch, Trevor Angove and Alan Shears put together 50 for the first wicket, when Shears edged one to Nick White off Pluckrose, who sent Martin Jenkin back to the hutch without scoring. At that stage, the game was evenly poised, but Troon slowly began to get on top with Angove and Moyle leading the way. Angove made 42 and Moyle 33 to set up the victory, and it was left to Khan and Timmy Edwards to see troon home for their first win in seven games. For Callington, Mark Pluckrose and Andy Brenton took two wickets each.
