Cricket- County Division One
Callington v St Just
Everybody has the occasional bad day at the office, and this was certainly one for Callington. Having been put in peners Cornwall captain Gary Thomas and Jason Hall, put together 65 runs before Brenton claimed a sharp caught and bowled to dismiss Thomas. Hall went on to score 46, while St Just's professional Nasser Ahmed made a fine half-century from 80 deliveries before being run out.
Carl Banfield made a useful 33 before falling lbw to James Shorten and then Neil Curnow and Nigel Smitheram put bat to ball with 39 and 28 respectively against the luckless Pluckrose and Sylvester to set a difficult target of 250 to win.

Devon and Cornwall issued with multiple snow and ice warningsCallington needed to get off to a good start, but lost two wickets with just 13 on the board. With Graham Trenwith seamin the ball with devastating effect, runs were hard to come by, although Colin Kitt made 26 before becoming Trenwith's third victim. Unusually, Andy Hocking usually took 91 balls to score 21 runs and the wickets began to fall. Thomas brought on slow bowler Gareth May to buy a wicker or two, and despite being a little expensive, he took out Messrs Legg, Pascoe and Brenton. In the end, Callington collapsed to 130 all out and could have no complaints. St Just were the better side on the day by far and Trenwith, with three for 13 off 15 overs, produced the best bowling display seen at the New Road in a long time.
