Callington v St Austell
Old rivals St Austell visited New Road on Saturday to face a Callington side enjoying a good run of form.
Batting first the visitors got off to a poor start and after 20 overs were reduced to 48 for 6 after the now feared combo of John Sylvester and Andy Brenton ripped through their top order.
Veteran Ian Collings and Andy Harland puton a mini revival and then Steve Wilden gave Collings some support, but Mark Pluckrose mopped up the tail to leave St Austell on 140, but only after Collings had reached a much deserved 50. Pluckrose claimed 4-27 and Brenton 3-55.
Callington lost Andy Snowdon in the third over but then Colin Kitt and Sylvester put on 47 for the second wicket, with Sylvester making a fine 41 off 39 balls. Kitt went soon after and then Andy Hocking and Jamie Hatch played very sensibly, with an unbeaten stand of 79 to see Callington home to another victory.
Hocking scored 30 n.o. and Hatch once more, with Harland, MacNamara and Simon Ellison sharing the three wickets to fall. Those expecting to see ex-Cornwall skipper Godfrey Furse turning his arm were disappointed as the St Austell captain was suffering from a rub injury.
