Cricket- County Division Four (East)
St Erme v Tideford
With only six first team regulars available Tideford had to call up their 23rd and 24th players to represent their top team this season.
Griffin and Luiten began well putting on 41 for the 1St wicket against Pearson and Chorley who were both obtaining movement off the pitch initially. St Erme regained the initiative when Chorley found Griffin's off-stump un-guarded, Pearson bowled a beauty which jagged back to hit Luiten's leg-stump and Geach played down the wrong line to Hathaway.
It was time for another re-building partnership which Tideford have made a habit of recently. This time it was Mark Lindfield who took centre stage ably supported by Mark Lister. They played completely different types of innings but both were as important as the other when it came to the aim of scoring enough runs for the bowlers to work with later.
Having put on 71 for the 5th wicket Lindfield continued with Copp then Trundley in further stands of 42 and 64 respectively to finish undefeated on 117.
Pearson again bowled well but tired at the death which was not surprising and Chorley looks a good prospect for the future.
St Erme's reply could not have got off to a worse start as Trethewey blocked a good length ball from Geach only to see it roll back and dislodge a bail. Wilcock had been kept quiet for 10 overs, at which point he realised the game was slipping away from St Erme and launched an attack which gave opportunities to the fielders but more importantly increased the run-rate.
It would have to have been that man Lindfield who held on to another chance given by Wilcock. It must be said that none of the previous chances were easy, but Tideford have been holding onto some corkers recently.
There was further resistance from Moses and Chorley but they were only delaying the result as first Dave Bradbeer then Andy Lockett picked up 3 wickets each. A late opportunity was given to Luiten and Griffin to display their all-round talents, neither letting the side down as both picked up a wicket in the last five overs of the match.
