On a bright, warm and sunny afternoon the Panasonic and Colliford Tavern sponsored Taverners began their league campaign against Lanhydrock. Taking the field under the new captaincy of A Tamblyn the Taverners were in a confident mood.
With Bunt and Watts entrusted with the Kivells sponsored ball the opening pair of Harris and Austin found it hard going but it wasn't until the 21st over that Bunt enticed Harris to edge to the evergreen Watts at slip and then bowled Austin a few balls later. Lanhydrock were 41 for two.
As Smart and Dunston started to rebuild the innings Bunt was replaced by D Fraser who bowled with pace and in his second over bowled Smart. Watts was then replaced by I Fraser who was not to be outdone by his son and had Dunston caught by the surprisingly awake G Kidd. This left Lanhydrock precariously placed at 62 for four. As mini partnerships started to build, wickets started to fall as father Fraser claimed two more and the returning Bunt took two more in an over. Then with one final fling Watts got the wicket he deserved and Lanhydrock were 92 all out.
K Nicholls and A Kent opened the batting and against a varied bowling attack they played themselves in and then regularly picked off the runs, with AK showing the benefits of his coaching course with some unique off-side shots. As the innings progressed they were constantly above the required run rate and never looked like getting out although some catching practise was given at times. In the 31st over Nicholls finished the job with a dashing four and St Neot were 95-0 and had won their first match in five east.
Scores - Lanhydrock 91 (C Harris 24; T Smart 14; D Rice 11; L Sturtridge 10; M Bunt 4-27; I Fraser 3-12).
St Neot 95-0 (K Nicholls 48 n.o.; A Kent 32 n.o.).
St Neot (20 pts) beat Lanhydrock (two) by 10 wickets.
