Cricket- Cornwall Over-50s

Cornwall lost their third game in a row to Devon, but then had a convincing victory against Wiltshire.

In the Devon game only Dave Honeywell and Nigel Cock, in a second wicket stand of 91, looked comfortable facing accurate bowling - Cock scoring an excellent 57. A couple of unfortunate dismissals did not help the Cornish total, and a very disappointing score of 152 was never going to be enough. Eames and Webster, with three wickets each, were the best of the Devon bowlers.

Eames continued his good form with an unbeaten 89 to help secure the Devon victory. Roy Strout with some very accurate bowling, arid Tony Randle with two wickets, were the best Cornish bowlers.

Final score: Cornwall 152 all out - Devon 153 for 4

There was a complete reversal of form for Cornwall in the match against Wiltshire. Wiltshire batted first and were held to 153 for 8 in their 45 overs. There was some good catching and tight bowling, especially by Les Driver, who finished his nine overs with 4 wickets for 20 runs, and Roy Strout with 2 for 23.

An opening stand of 78 between Tim Redman and Dave Honeywell, which was half the total needed, put Cornwall well on the way to winning. Nigel Cock then joined Redman and both were unbeaten when the winning run was scored; Redman not out 52 and Cock, with his second County 50 of the season, not out 57. A convincing win, and hopefully Cornwall can continue winning in their next game against the Channel Islands at Gunnislake on July 21st.

Final score: Wiltshire 153 for 8 - Cornwall 157 for 1
