RESIDENTS in Liskeard are counting down to 9.30am on Monday when the doors of the town's library will re-open, unveiling the exciting new layout of the building. The library has been closed since December 2 to enable the £30,000 refurbishment to take place. Eric Brooke, Cornwall County Council's executive member for Community Services, and Geoff Aver, the director of education, arts and libraries will cut a ribbon and open the doors of the library on Monday to welcome library users and reveal the new layout. 'The aim of the refurbishment has been to take a much loved, well used traditional library and transform it into a modern, comfortable, attractive, customer friendly community library offering a professional friendly service with something for everyone,' said manager Anyon Nazir. 'We consulted customers of all ages about what they would like to include and have incorporated as many of their ideas as possible in the new design, although we are keeping the final plan a secret until re-opening day. 'The refurbishment has been the talk of the town, and customers have been getting very excited about what the new interior looks like'. As well as the new layout, the library will have large numbers of new books, and a brand new children's area. Chris Ramsey, assistant director of education, arts and libraries said: 'The major renovation work on the outside of the library earlier on this year restored it to its rightful place as one of the most elegant and important public buildings in Liskeard. 'This additional work to totally transform the layout of the interior will mean that the community has a facility it can really be proud of and we hope it will attract even more users.' Following Monday's opening ceremony there will be a number of other events to continue the celebrations. These include a party on Thursday, December 15 for the library's younger customers who attend the regular babyclub and storytime sessions, and a big Christmas book sale.
