CORNWALL Council is to ban single-use plastics by 2020.
The decision was taken at a full council meeting on Tuesday.
Member for St Germans and Landulph, Councillor Jesse Foot, proposed the motion ‘Konsel Kernow Says No to Single Use Plastics’, with support from fellow councillors including Looe West’s Edwina Hannaford and Dorothy Kirk of Gunnislake and Calstock.
Cllr Foot proposed: ‘Cornwall Council will, wherever possible, phase out the use of all single use cups, lids, plastic bottles, plastic-lined cardboard, and any other single use plastics from the entire Cornwall Council Estate by 2020.
‘In addition, Cornwall Council urges all businesses with which we work, through procurement avenues and other networks, to promote the banning of similar products in their business environments.’
We’ll have more on this in the new print edition of the Cornish Times, on sale on Friday.
