SALTASH Town Council has named the town's priorities following consultations with residents.

Top of the council's provisional list is the creation of a Neighbourhood Plan for jobs and housing for the next 20 years.

People in Saltash also wish to see existing improvement projects continued, such as free parking in the town centre and signage.

Also given high priority were better facilities at Saltash Railway Station, proactive marketing to attract chain stores to the town centre, and developing amenities at the Waterside.

Lower down the list and named as medium priorities were enhancing empty shops, support for job creation, play areas, and the provision of a 'vibrant Saltash' office, with a paid employee to oversee town centre management. Taking on toilets from Cornwall Council was also a medium priority, although a community toilet scheme involving local businesses was higher up the list.

A total of 128 adults and 93 young people completed a questionnaire which asked them to rank their priorities.

'The number of replies received, the comments made and comments at our monthly meet your councillor events show a high level of engagement between the public and the council,' said mayor David Yates.

'The responses will be used to put together a medium term financial and staffing recommendation which will be discussed at the October town council meeting.'

The information will be used to help set future budgets, said cllr Yates.
