Cornwall Council could be about to fork out £495,000 for Torpoint Police Station, writes Richard Whitehouse, local democracy reporter.
The Council’s leaders are meeting this morning to decide whether to approve the plan.
Devon and Cornwall Police got planning permission in 2017 to redevelop the station building as a two or three-storey block of 10 flats along with space for a police office.
After the council found that the site was available it started discussions with the police, and has reached an agreement to buy the site and lease it back to the force.
Cornwall Council already owns a number of sites around the police station including a disused fire station, car park and library.
It is suggested that using all the sites together, the council could provide around 55 new homes.
The council would look to provide one and two-bedroom houses on the site - and says that this would complement another council housing development at Defiance Field in Torpoint.
