Fined for breach

of footpath ban

THE first person in Cornwall has been found guilty of using a footpath during the current restrictions on public rights of way, as a result of the foot and mouth crisis.

Antony Roy Paddon, of Illogan was fined £500 and told to pay £100 costs by Camborne magistrates. Paddon pleased guilty to walking on the footpath at Reskajeage Downs between Portreath and Hell's Mouth on March 9 when he was observed by police officers.

HMS Cornwall

returns to county

HMS Cornwall, the Royal Naval frigate adopted by The Cornish Times, was due to arrive in Falmouth this morning to make her first visit to Cornwall for two years.

During the four day visit the ship's company will parade at County Hall in Truro, and attend a reception hosted by the county council. Tomorrow morning the captain, Timothy McClement, will rename a Warship class D21 locomotive 'Cornwall'.

Bungee jumping

for the centre

LISKEARD town councillor, John Mashiter, has offered to do a bungee jump in order to raise funds for the new respite centre for young people with learning disabilities - to open in Liskeard in the former BT depot.

Mr Mashiter made the offer at the council's monthly meeting, on Tuesday, and said he hoped to make the jump in the summer and raise around £2,000. Among sites he has been looking at is the Gold Diggings quarry near Minions.
