THE Launceston and district Caged Bird Society has found itself a twin - down under.
The Society, which meets in the RBL in Launceston, has twinned with the Caged Bird Society of Launceston, in Tasmania. The Societies have been finding out more about each other on the Internet.
Mine shafts blow
for BMX racers
THE discovery of open mine shafts has brought disappointment to young BMX riders in St Ann's chapel - as they were found in a new field where the riders were to be based. Work on the field has been held up while the problem of the shafts is investigated. In the meantime the riders are appealing for anyone with spare land temporarily to help them out. Anyone who can help should telephone 01822 832960.

BRIDE to be Rachel Webb and her future husband, Simon Jones, just failed to make it to the finals of the Wedding and Home magazine's Bride of the Year 2001. Rachel, 26 of Saltash, and Simon, 28, were selected as one of two couples from the South West battling it out to be the region's sole representatives in the final. The couple met when Simon, a music teacher, brought his pupils' quartet to play morning assembly at Badminton Girls' school where Rachel is a primary teacher. On Christmas Eve last year Simon proposed on the top of Dartmoor, on one knee, whilst playing 'Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend' on his trumpet.
