Top award for

restored church

LANLIVERY church has beaten off competition from both home and abroad to win the prestigious Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors' award 2000 for conservation.

The award was presented on October 4 in the presence of the Prince of Wales. The grade l listed building was restored following extensive storm damage in the early l990s. Praise for

new buses

THERE has been much praise over the last few weeks for the Liskeard and District Omnibus Company which has taken over the routes vacated by First Western National on September 23.

Passengers, especially those with no transport of their own, are delighted they are not going to be left stranded in their villages as they had first feared, and are pleased the new service is keeping mainly to the previous timetable.

Trade waste for

Liskeard quarry?

PROPOSALS are due to be submitted next week for the use of Lean quarry, near Liskeard, as a landfill site for trade waste.

It is thought that the quarry, which currently takes waste from the commercial sector on a small scale, would be able to handle about half the current output of trade waste in Cornwall.

Currently 60% of the commercial sector waste taken by the quarry - known for its bluestone - is recycled. Cornwall is currently running out of landfill capacity.
