Torpoint may have
farmers' market
A FARMERS' market could be held in Torpoint.
The markets, where farmers sell their produce direct to the public, have proved popular in other towns across Cornwall.
Torpoint Town Council is looking into the idea of holding a market.
One suggestion being considered is that a market is held in the walled garden area at Thanckes Park.
Belly dancers
concern councillors
RISING numbers of chilly belly dancers have generated concern among Liskeard town councillors.
Minutes of the council's recent property committee explained there had been a report that 'the belly dancers were now increasing in numbers and may have to move from the Quimperle Room to the Guildhall. They have expressed concern as to the lack of heating and suggested whether curtains can be provided.'
The committee recommended that two old heaters be replaced with Halogen heaters, and that curtains in storage could be re-used in the Guildhall for the patio and, if possible, other windows.
Pollution speaker
A MEETING, at which plans to change the ruling on waste emissions from Devonport Dockyard into the River Tamar are to be discussed, will be held at the University of Plymouth's Robbins Centre, Gibbon Street, next Tuesday.
The city's Environmental Forum will include speakers such as Chris Busby, of the Green Party, who is concerned about the health effects of being exposed to waste such as tritium. Mr Busby has carried out research on nuclear pollution and background radiation.
Fire station objection
PLANS for a new fire station in Torpoint have met with opposition from the town council.
The council has lodged an objection to the proposal to build a station near Torpoint School.
The council voted against the plan on the grounds of road safety, warning that there is poor visibility in both directions on the approaches to the proposed site.
