Trago backing for a better junction

Trago Mills boss, Bruce Robertson, has offered the highways agency some of his land so road safety can be improved outside his Twowatersfoot store.

Mr Robertson has also funded an illuminated bollard to assist motorists turning into Trago at the busy junction on the A38. The area is a safety blackspot, with 15 accidents occurring there between l993-98. He said he thought it a matter for the public purse to provide such measures, but if business people such as himself can make such efforts it is worthwhile.

Two minutes to remember

At 11am on Thursday November 11 Caradon council will be inviting staff, and those who are on business in the council premises at Liskeard, to pause and remember those who died in the two world wars and in more than 70 other conflicts.

Staff are being advised of the two minute silence, and notices will be posted accordingly, but participation will be for individuals to decide as a matter of personal conscience.

The firing of two maroons in Castle Park, Liskeard, one at llam and one at ll.02am will also take place.

Vandals to repair damage

Vandalism problems at Liskeard's Thorn Park, were reported to the town council.

Members, who debated the need for painting work and the replacement of safety surface tiles, were told graffiti had been sprayed on the children's play fort.

Four youngsters had admitted the offence, the meeting heard, and have agreed to clean off the damage under the supervision of mayor, Roger Holmes, and John Mashiter.

Play equipment inspections?

Following concerns about the safety of equipment at village play areas Caradon council may take on an inspection role for parishes currently managing such facilities.

The matter was highlighted earlier this year when play equipment at Rilla Mill was dismantled due to fears for children's safety because of the proximity of the River Lynher to the site. This triggered off concerns at other places, and in response to a questionnaire 18 parish councils showed interest in a district inspection service.

The initiative will go ahead, subject to funding for staff and transport being available in the next budget.

Driver on wrong side of the road
