With reference to John Rodgers' letter (Cornish Times, 08.12.06) regarding Plymouth dumping its waste in Cornwall. I would like to point out a few facts. Plymouth is in Devon and Devon is a much larger county than Cornwall. Imerys also has clay workings just on the outskirts of Plymouth at Lee Moor. They would be ideal landfill sites. Dartmoor is also vastly under used. What's wrong with using part of that for landfill? Why should Cornwall be used as a dumping ground for another council's waste. I can't take my waste to a Plymouth tip even though I live just over the Tamar. Finally, I do not want a regional assembly based in Plymouth.
