Premier League Dobwalls entertained division two side Gunnislake in the third round of the Junior Cup and fielded a young and inexperienced side due to unavailability. This didn't make any difference to the standard of play as the boys showed their older team mates what quality they have, pushing the more established players for regular places in the starting line up.
With the strong wind at their backs the home side opened their account early on with a Mark Fielder header from a set piece. The visitors levelled 10 minutes later when the ball was given away in midfield allowing them to break clear and a low driver cross that should have been cleared was tapped in at the far post.
Martin Polatch restored the lead before the break to maintain his goal a game average since joining the club at the start of last season. Although Gunnislake had the elements behind them in the second half they couldn't match the superior pace and skill of the Lantoom Park side and fell further behind when Johnny Niblett headed home from a corner. To make matters worst a foul on Glen Toms resulted in a penalty which Karl Roberts gratefully put away to extend the lead. The home goalkeeper now has five goals to his name this season (all penalties). The visiting keeper made a string of fine saves to keep the scoreline respectable.
For Dobwalls a number of players shone including Johnny Niblett and veteran Andy Hill but the man of the match award was given to youngster Chris Young who was playing his first full match for the club having previously being used on a limited bases, he showed his all-round quality over the full 90 minutes and will prove to be an asset to the club in the remainder of the season. There was also a welcomed return for Stewart Dunn after a lengthy layoff due to injury. His pace and elusive running have been missed.
