Cornish swimmer Jonathan Fox has been chosen in Britain’s squad for the Rio Paralympics.

The British Paralympic Association (BPA) today announced the 31 swimmers who will compete for ParalympicsGB at Rio 2016.

He is joined on the team by a formidable list of Paralympic multi-medallists including Ellie Simmonds, Charlotte Henshaw, James Crisp, Claire Cashmore and Sascha Kindred.

Jonathan Fox, who is a backstroke specialist, is already a  Paralympic, World and European medalist and he won ParalympicsGB’s first gold medal in the pool at London 2012.

The St Stephen man said today: ’I’m very happy, but I don’t think it’s really sunk in just yet. The past few years have been really tough, going through my first real experience of injury, which could have potentially ended my career. But to go to the Europeans and to be back at the top of the podium really proves a point and is a huge boost for me.

’There are too many people to thank, the whole of Cornwall has backed me 100 percent and there are a lot of people who have helped me return to full fitness so I’m really grateful for their support.’
