Pub managers have promised to ‘go out with a bang’ as a popular town venue closes its doors this weekend.

It will be the end of an era for many in Liskeard as the Cornish Ivy hosts its last events tonight (Friday) and tomorrow.

Long known as the Carlton, the Cornish Ivy building started life as a cinema and became a nightclub in the 1970s.

The large town centre venue has hosted fairs, sports teams, private functions and discos in the decades since.

Leaseholder Andrew Wilson announced two weeks ago that the Ivy would be closing for major refurbishment, and with no word on future plans as yet, it has meant the loss of 16 jobs.

Tonight, landlords Nigel and Anita Walker plan a Grand Karaoke Finale, and tomorrow (Saturday 9th) there will be a ‘Music through the Ages’ night with hits from the 70s right up to today.
