A 24-year-old from South East Cornwall is setting her sights on a lucrative modelling contract after winning a place at this year's Miss England competition. Accounts manager Katie Pollard, from Saltash, recently beat 15 finalists to be crowned Miss Plymouth – an award which will give her the chance to compete for the title of Miss England. 'I was shocked but really really pleased to win,' said Katie, who has a degree in criminology and social policy, and works as an accounts manager for Oracle Magazine. Supportive 'All my friends were pleased for me. I was a bit worried at first because I thought I might get a mixed reception, but all my friends and my family have been really supportive.' Katie is now hoping to do well in the Miss England finals which will be held in Leicester on June 28-30. The competition has a prize fund of more than £20,000, which includes a car, designer wardrobe and a holiday for two to Sri Lanka. The winner will also be given a modelling contract and the chance to represent England at the Miss World competition in Poland this September. 'I am absolutely terrified,' said Katie who won the Plymouth competition following a successful public vote and an interview with five contest judges. 'I am excited about the competition but there are 90 other contestants that I have to go up against who have won their own heats.' At the finals Katie will have to take part in a Bollywood-style makeover, catwalk show and talent contest. She also has to prepare a drama piece and organise a charity fundraising event.
