Torpoint Ath 2
Liskeard Ath 0
Following this defeat at The Mill, Liskeard manager Leigh Cooper admitted: 'If we had a striker of Adam Carter's ability, we would have left with all three points, as he was the difference between the two sides.
'Any neutral at the game would not have been able to see which team was the one next to bottom of the League.
'We are looking fairly solid... it was just two bits of real quality by Carter that decided the game; and we need to quickly find a striker who knows where the back of the net is.'
Torpoint assistant manager Gary Tiffany was quick to praise Cooper's under-fire side, saying: 'I take my hat off to Liskeard, as they battled right the way through the game.
'Fortunately, though, they never troubled our goalkeeper once in the 90 minutes.
'It is very pleasing to secure another three points with yet another clean sheet, especially when we have been hit hard by injuries to our defenders,' added Tiffany, referring to the absence of both Gavin Woodward and Paul Partridge.
Things are moving well at The Mill, and the scene is now set for first game under floodlights, against Parkway this evening.
While matters off the field have been racing along, managers Paul Stephens and Gary Tiffany have been keeping matters on the field of play moving in the right direction without draining the resources. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of the Lux Park outfit – who have now gone 12 games without success – and it is only Elburton Villa's inability to win another game that keeps them off the bottom of the table.
A relegation dogfight with Elburton and Holsworthy is already in motion, and the Blues – who were let down badly in their attempts to sign two new players – will need to add to this squad if they are to pull away from the danger zone.
Cooper's and Tiffany's thoughts about Carter – who has been back to his best since returning to The Mill – were spot-on, with these two goals taking him to 19 for the season.
However, it took the striker until the 56th minute to make the breakthrough, when his 20-yard free-kick went over the top of the Liskeard defensive wall and into the corner of Ian Baker's net. Liskeard's task was made even harder minutes later as they had defender Sam Chitty sent off in his first game back from suspension..
And Chitty had not even reached the changing rooms when Torpoint made the most of the situation, Carter receiving Gary Williams' through-ball to lift it over the onrushing Baker and assure the points remained at The Mill.
