Liskeard Athletic manager Leigh Cooper was disappointed that Paul Chuwen has left Lux
Park to join deadly rivals Saltash United.
He has joined a club with a large squad and it will be interesting to see how he develops
in that company, said Cooper.
Chuwen developed well at Liskeard last term after Cooper had plucked him out of Division One East obscurity with Buckfastleigh Rangers, finishing as top scorer with the Blues with nine goals from midfield after signing in the New Year.
Whether Chuwen will be able to force his way into a strong, top heavy, Saltash squad remains to be seen, as he had the chance to develop even further at Lux Park.
Chuwen joins Neal Kinsman in the players that have left Liskeard, with the skilful midfielder joining Plymouth Parkway, who played him in the unusual position of right-back against Plymouth Argyle last Tuesday.
The Blues boss has been busy bolstering his squad with the signing of 20-year-old former Callington Town and Plymstock United striker Hussein Watfa, while Foxhole Stars promising 19-year-old winger Kyle Friendship has also been recruited as Cooper continues to build for the future.
Former St Blazey midfielder Demitri Kanakh has been on trial at Lux Park and impressed Cooper and is assistant Tony Richardson in training last Tuesday.
Kanakh had spells at Vospers Oak Villa and St Blazey last season, and if Cooper can harness his undoubted talent then the central midfielder will be a bonus for the Lux Park faithful.
Watfa began his Peninsula career with Millbrook before signing for Callington but a return home, for family reasons, brought an unwelcome break to the talented strikers season, which ended with him forcing his way into a very good Callington side despite the prescence of Anthony and Dennis Mason.
We have taken a chance on both Hussein and Demitri at Premier Division level, but both looked extremely promising at training, revealed the Blues boss. Cooper is still awaiting news on a couple of signings, with the favourite being 20-year-old left-sided midfielder
Tom Hunter from Falmouth Town, and there is still a possibilty that his team-mate Neil Slateford could follow to Lux Park.
Cooper will get a first look at his new players in action at The Mill on Tuesday 21) against Division One West outfit Vospers Oak Villa, with a 6.45pm kick-off.
