AROUND 60 young singers, dancers and actors will be on stage in Liskeard this weekend in a concert to mark Remembrance.

‘In Flanders Fields’ is a production to support Help for Heroes, featuring children who belong to the Caradon Youth Choir and the newly formed Caradon Youth Theatre and Dance groups.

While the young dancers have choreographed their own pieces, the drama group will bring to life extracts from First World War soldiers’ diaries and scenes from ’The boy in the striped pyjamas’ and ’Private Peaceful’ by Michael Morpurgo.

The youngsters will be joined by special guests and supported by a live band including pianist Chris Howarth and trumpeter Sgt Iain Scullion.

Artistic director Nic Early is excited about what he describes as a celebratory event.

‘It is a privilege, not only to be working with a fantastic group of young people aged between six and 18, but to be engaging them in an incredibly important part of our history,’ he said.

‘The inspiration to do this concert came from the poem ’In Flanders Fields’ by John McCrae, which was made into a beautiful song that the choir will be performing.’

In Flanders Fields will be staged at Liskeard Public Hall on Saturday (November 18).
