Members of Callington’s community proudly gathered at the town’s war memorial on Tuesday to mark the fantastic achievement of volunteers who spent months working on Remembrance displays around the town – including a magnificent ‘Poppy Wave’ outside the parish church.

As well as this morning’s event being attended by Callington Portreeve Suzan Tolman and many of the volunteers who had knitted the poppies since the summer, and who contributed funds and materials for the project, also present was Callington British Legion standard bearer and branch chairman Jason Bond, and local councillor Prof Mike Moore bearing a flag of St Piran and Scott Houghton bearing the union flag.

Also present at the event was a special lorry decorated with poppy artwork which is one of three belonging to food company Samworth Brothers, part of the partnership which now includes Callington-based pasties, pies and sandwiches firm Ginsters.
