The Liskeard committee of the Cancer Research Campaign is to hold its 32nd annual art exhibition in Liskeard's public hall in March.

The exhibition is the Committee's major fund-raising event of the year and there are anticipated entries of more than l,000 paintings in all media.

Newcomers are encouraged to exhibit, and all works of art are hung at random, which means that unknown amateurs can exhibit their work alongside professional artists.

There will also be many locally made crafts including wood-turning, pottery, glassware, jewellery and hand made cards.

Other money-raising activities during the event include a raffle and an auction with the first lot being by artist Archibald Thorburn. The limited edition print, entitled 'Ptarmigan Sunrise', has been donated by John Southern of Dobwalls theme park.

Doors will open on March 7 at 7pm with the official opening honours performed at 7.30pm by the Committee's county patron, Lady Woodard. The entry fee to this evening, of £5, takes in cheese and wine. Thereafter the show will run daily from March 8-12 from l0am-8pm, closing at 3.30pm on the Sunday with the draw and auction. From Wednesday onwards refreshments will be available throughout the day, admission being £1.50.

All exhibits are for sale. In recent years the event has raised in excess of £14,000.
