A HIGHLY-regarded green keeper has joined the staff on an agricultural college's greenkeeping course. Steve Evans, the former course manager at Yelverton Golf Club, is to join Duchy College, Stoke Climsland, as full-time greenkeeper tutor and assessor. Mr Evans has been green keeping for 28 years and has served on the British International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA) section and regional committees in South Wales, Devon and Cornwall. He said: 'I am looking forward to my new role within the industry, where I can pass on some of my experience to the students in the workplace.' Duchy College gained Greenkeeper Training Committee (GTC) approved status last year and has the full support of the Devon and Cornwall Section of BIGGA. Since getting the status, the college has enjoyed a number of notable achievements, including a student who won the Institute of Groundsmanship Young Groundsman of the Year award. Andrew Counsell, the principal of Duchy College, said: 'Greenkeeping at Duchy has become increasingly popular in recent years and the course is going from strength to strength. Congratulations to Steve in his new position.'
