Local artist and full-time carer Mike Howells has been made Citizen of the Year for Torpoint. Mayor Julie Martin presented the award and said: 'I am delighted to present this to Mike. He selflessly gives his time and support to the community.' Mike said: 'I carry this for all the carers in Torpoint and people of courage. I will carry it with pride in the town.' Mike was founder of Torpoint Arts Club and gives free lessons at the library. He donates paintings for good causes and supports community events in the town. Mike is also an active member of the carers' association and has championed disabled facilities in the town.
