THE annual Gift Day at Callington Methodist Church has raised more than £2,500 for church funds. While members and friends were able to enjoy a chat and a cup of tea, the Rev Howard Curnow, minister, and Lena Richards, treasurer, were on hand to receive donations. Gift Day concluded with a 'Home Grown' concert when it was the turn of members and friends to show off their talents. The Rev Anne Curnow was MC for the evening, which began with an items from the Chapel Choir. Following this were solos sung by Andy Williams and Deborah and Kathryn Bunkum. Instrumental solos and duets were performed by Jennifer Boase on the cornet, Paul Boase on the oboe, Tania Pethick on the flute and clarinet player Angela Priestley. Comedy items included two monologues in Cornish dialect by the Rev Howard Curnow, a sing-a-long with the Rev Chris Tomlinson, an endless supply of corny jokes by resident comedian Kevin Veal and a sketch by Jill Rickard and the Rev Anne Curnow which nearly bit the dust when everyone had an uncomfortable fit of the giggles. The choir then sang once more to end the evening, with Ken Pethick and Jill Rickard providing musical accompaniment.
