Parishioners are ‘heartbroken’ after having to close a church, forcing one local family to reorganise a wedding just a week before the big day.
The emergency decision to close Quethiock Church temporarily was made because of fears about material falling from the roof.
The news came after years of fundraising to fix the roof and improve lighting at the grade 1 listed St Hugh’s Church.
Churchwarden Rachel Winstone said: ‘It’s really heartbreaking. We had a marvellous watertight church, lighting, a new circuit board and we thought it would keep us going for years.’
The church has had to be closed because small pieces of roofing wood – roughly 18x6in slats – had fallen from the ceiling.
There’s more on this in this week’s edition of the Cornish Times, on sale now.
